See fireworks that are even more spectacular than the Macy’s show

The Fourth of July is technically over, but you can keep celebrating all month long with even more fireworks! This may sound like blasphemy, but there’s a fireworks show in New Jersey that actually blows away the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks. Yes, really.

RECOMMENDED: See the essential guide to New Jersey

The 2016 40th-anniversary Macy’s show was pretty or whatever, but there's a pyrotechnics display in Berkeley Heights that is longer and bigger, and that equals better. The Mt. Carmel Feast & Fireworks festivities start on Wednesday, July 13, with the fireworks finale on Saturday, July 16, so as not to interfere with all the important pool parties and barbecues on the actual Fourth. One of the best festivals in NJ, it also has a processional parade on Saturday at 8am and a fairground with carnival rides and food.

Tickets cost $10, and the event happens rain or shine. It’s a one-hour drive (or one-and-a-half-hour NJ Transit bus ride), perfect for a weekend getaway in NJ. The nearby roads shut down at 6pm, and you should get there an hour or two earlier than that if you want to get a good seat directly under the sparklers. Though really, any seat is a good seat, unlike when you try to watch the Macy's fireworks from an underpass on the FDR Drive. And the show lasts about 45 minutes, nearly twice the length of the Macy’s ones. BOOM.

Pack a comfy picnic blanket and your earplugs, and check out last year’s display here:
