As if we weren't already pining for warmer weather during these frigid February days, the folks at Lincoln Center are teasing us with the promise of summertime boozing. After hosting a series of popular cocktail events at its public promenade last year, the performing arts center has decided to add a champagne bar by the fountain (which is already considered one of New York's most romantic spots) in the plaza.

The 16-seat outdoor bar will be popping bottles of bubbly along the back side of Avery Fisher Hall, but additional high-top tables may also be available. It's still yet to be determined whether there will be table service, self-service or a combination of both, but either way, the space at Hearst Plaza remains public—that means you'll be able to snag a table for a few glasses, order small plates or just sit with a book and not order a thing.

Sipping wine al fresco seems pretty far off, especially because the city's frozen fountains are far from thawing and the best outdoor bars won't be dusting off their patios and rooftops for at least another month. For now, maybe we should just focus on slugging whiskey beside fireplaces and snuggling for warmth at the city's coziest bars.
