Did you know that Thailand has their own New Year called Songkran? It coincides with the Buddhist/Hindu solar calendar, and is traditionally April 13 to 15. It’s also known for being a huge water festival in Thailand, with people sprinkling and splashing water on each other in the streets. Nothing quite like wishing someone Happy New Year with a Super Soaker. It may still be too chilly for that here in New York, but good news: You can celebrate over some Chiang Mai curry noodles and spicy papaya salad instead.

This is the inaugural year that the the Tourism Authority of Thailand is celebrating Songkran Festival with Thai Restaurant Week. From April 11 to 17, Thai restaurants in New York are offering special dishes and prix-fixe menus at places like Qi Bangkok Eatery, Esanation, Kiin Thai Eatery and more.
