If, like us, you used up every available inch of waistline at Christmas, every last dollar on New Year’s Eve and every last shred of dignity on New Year’s Day as you shame-walked home for a Netflix binge, you might be feeling a little glum right now. You know what you need? Jokes. Lots of jokes. 50 of them, to be precise, which is exactly what you’ll get tonight at The Bell House with the 9th annual 50 First Jokes show.

The concept is simple: 50 comics, ranging from up and coming locals to established greats, will take the stage, one after the other, and tell the first joke that they wrote in 2015. Will they all be polished to perfection? Absolutely not, but then that’s half the fun. The full line-up hasn’t been announced, but the handful of confirmed names include some very familiar faces, such as Aparna Nancherla, Emmy Blotnick and Sasheer Zamata (three of the stars of Time Out New York’s Women of Comedy 2014 show), Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che and Punderdome host Jo Firestone. The show starts at 8pm and costs $10, but if you can’t wait till tonight, our Joke of the Week collection should tide you over.
