On Saturday, August 16 the ninth annual Dissident Arts Festival will continue its celebration of jazz, poetry, performance art and film. Unlike past years, the festival will be held at El Taller Latino Americano in celebration of the renowned cultural space’s 35th anniversary. The festival lives up to it's name: the Dissident Festival focuses on being somewhat rebellious and left-winged.
Since its inception in 2006, the Dissident Arts Festival has served as a showcase and commemoration of the rich heritage of protest performance and art—the only festival of its kind. Past performers have included jazz icon Karl Berger, Beat poet Steve Dalachinsky and the late, great Pete Seeger, who will be honored at the festival.
The festival will take place from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and admission is $15.
