The improv troupes and sketch groups anchored at UCBT are some of the best in the city. Stars of Saturday Night Live, VH1 and writers for late-night talk shows gather on Sunday nights to wow crowds in the long-running ASSSSCAT 3000. Other noteworthy teams include Death by Roo Roo (Saturdays) and the Stepfathers (Fridays).

What can I say about UCB! It is certainly an institution and one I hope sticks around for a very long time!  Improv/comedy shows are certainly the most bang for your buck you're going to get in NYC any day of the week! How much bang you're going to get is debatable.  The classic improv shows are usually the best including many that have famous names appear from time to time! But some of the stranger shows/presentations/political round tables or what have you can often be a bigger "miss". But that's what the theater is here for to help give up and and coming comedians a place to practice and hone their craft! Definitely worth checking out!

Even if UCB wasn't basically a historic comedy institution at this point, it would still be a treasure simply based on the fact it offers CHEAP shows ($5-$10) seven days a week with some of the best performers in the world, both famous and not. On any day of the week you know you can show up and laugh your ass off, both at longstanding improv shows like Harold Night and Asssscat3000, but also with plenty of original shows like Fucking Identical Twins, Terry Withers Mysteries and Mike Birbiglia's Dream. Thank you, UCB Four, for granting all of us this little basement theater chock full of dick jokes.
