Time Out says

Nine Orchard occupies the iconic Jarmulowsky Bank, a deeply historic building restored using its original 1912 blueprints. The Neo-Renaissance architecture has been brought back to life with care: vaulted ceilings, pink Tennessee marble floors and Botticino marble walls create a backdrop for bold artworks and patterned banquettes.

It’s a hotel that works just as well for coffee, dinner or drinks as it does for an overnight stay. It’s also a magnet for celebrities and tastemakers—on my way out, I clocked model Lucky Blue Smith and his social-media-star wife Nara Smith gliding in to check in—proof, if any were needed, that Nine Orchard is one heck of a swish place to stay.

Why should you stay at Nine Orchard?

Let me count the reasons. Firstly, the location is spot on: just off the beaten path in the Lower East Side, with an indie edge and some of the city’s best boutiques on the doorstep. The design is genuinely swoon-worthy, and the dining options deliver, with the ground-floor Swan Room calling for a cocktail once evening rolls around.

What are the rooms like at Nine Orchard?

There are 113 rooms across six categories, starting with classic and studio spaces with queen or king-size beds. At the top end, there are two-bedroom suites ideal for families, plus a rooftop terrace suite and the aptly named Supreme View Suite, with skyline vistas.

While the public spaces lean into opulent maximalism, the bedrooms feel calm and relaxed, drawing on mid-century modern influences. Expect white walls, a muted palette and graphic artworks. I stayed in a Studio King, which was ideal for two people, with generous floor space, a lounge chair and a small closet. Large windows open up to gorgeous city views, while the bathroom impresses with a roomy walk-in shower and classic white metro tiles.

What are the dining options at Nine Orchard like?

The jewel in Nine Orchard’s crown is the Swan Room, a decadent all-day dining space and evening cocktail bar set within the former bank teller hall. Just off the lobby, it makes a striking first impression. The menu upgrades bar snacks with dishes such as ocean trout carpaccio, wood-fired oysters and caviar fries, alongside a signature burger for something more substantial.

For laid-back but atmospheric all-day dining, there’s Corner Bar, inspired by legendary bistros and taverns from around the world. A typical menu might include grilled pekin duck with cara cara orange, endive and citrus gastrique, paired with broccolini with garlic and chili or wood-fired carrots with coconut labneh, vadouvan crumble and mint. For me, the cocktails are reason enough to visit, especially the Harvest Negroni with orchard gin and apple aperitif.

What’s the service like at Nine Orchard?

On the desk, the team were efficient, helpful but pretty no-nonsense—in typical New Yorker fashion. While enjoying a few glasses in the Swan Room, I got chatting to the servers who were lovely, warmly inquiring about my New York plans and sharing their recommendations. One moment to mention, though, has to be bumping into the Head of Marketing just before the bar had opened, who offered to pop a bottle of champagne with two glasses on the house, as the staff hadn’t quite arrived. It was a lush welcome, and her excitement in meeting guests showed how much HQ cares about the in-person experience.

What are the facilities at Nine Orchard?

If you’re looking for somewhere to host an event or meeting, Nine Orchard has some beautiful options from the artsy Blue Room with a custom, botanical mural by Happy Menocal and space for 40 seated diners, to the rooftop greenhouse with capacity for a celebration of 225 standing, or 70 seated. Nine Orchard also has a stylish, jade-green gym for workouts while you travel, but there isn’t a spa or swimming pool.

What’s the area like around Nine Orchard?

Good news—Nine Orchard sits at the top of Orchard Street, which just so happens to be one of the buzziest shopping streets on the Lower East Side. Lined with boutiques, here you’ll find the likes of Sandy Liang, Desert Vintage, Peche Shoes and Miista. There’s colorful, independent homewares to be browsed, niche labels to be discovered and cute coffee shops to be frequented. Time Out even voted Orchard Street the ninth coolest in the world, that’s just how worth-a-visit it is.

Why you should book a stay at Nine Orchard

Not only is it on one of the hippest streets in New York, the interiors are mind-blowing and the clientele are as chic as it comes. Even if you don’t stay, make sure you go for a cocktail. Top tip: on the first floor there’s a guest-only space with a real, roaring fire—don’t miss it!
