Music Hell's Kitchen
4 out of 5 stars
(1user review)

The flagship venue for midtown’s jazz resurgence, Birdland takes its place among the neon lights of Times Square seriously. That means it’s a haven for great jazz musicians (Joe Lovano, Kurt Elling) as well as performers like John Pizzarelli and Aaron Neville. The club is also notable for its roster of bands in residence. Sundays belong to the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra.

Friday nights with Tommy Igoe and the Birdland Big Band is a perfect way to begin the weekend! This show starts early at 5:15 and ends at 7:15 so this group of NYC's finest musicians can go off to their various Broadway show gigs. Great for a place to meet after work or pre-theater.  $15 cover and 2 drink minimum. Courteous, friendly and  professional staff!.  Early dinner available... delicious.... and the hot artichoke dip appetizer is yummy! I recommend a cocktail rather than wine by the glass....the finer wines are lacking here,  but the musicians and high energy music loving crowd make up for it. If you want to hear Fantastic Jazz, Latin and Brazilian music played by the best, this is the place to be. Tommy has taken over where the late great Lew Anderson left off and has done it with true class! Tommy's show is getting popular and so I recommend to call ahead for a reservation.
