Get ready for the sounds of Coltrane to create your December soundtrack yet again: the annual year-ending festival celebrating the music of legendary saxophonist, bandleader and composer John Coltrane returns to Smoke Jazz Club on the Upper West Side.
The series will kick off on Wednesday, December 20 with “The Cat” quintet led by renowned jazz saxophonist George Coleman alongside guitarist Peter Bernstein, pianist Emmet Cohen, bassist John Webber, and drummer Joe Farnworth. The jazzy fun will continue with an all-star sextet with two special guests: trumpeter Eddie Henderson and trombonist Steve Davis. Bassist Buster Williams and drummer Al Foster will take the stage for two nights before New Year’s Eve, and then on December 31, ring in the new year with the sounds of special guest jazz vocalist Carla Cook, who will be joining the Eric Reed / Vincent Herring Quintet with Jeremy Pelt.
