Looks like she really, really, really, really, really, really hates him, now that Carly Rae Jepsen has been announced as one of the songwriters for a new Broadway musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You, with a book co-written by Lena Dunham.

Yes, it's something of a millennial fever dream: A cult-classic '90s rom-com, reimagined for the Broadway musical stage by Dunham and Jepsen. The show will begin previews on August 17, 2027, at a theater to be announced, starring a cast also to be announced.

That means no word yet on who will take over the roles that turned Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt into stars, but this creative team is already a selling point. In addition to a book by Dunham and playwright Jessica Huang and music and lyrics by Jepsen and Ethan Gruska, Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph, while Tony and Grammy Award winner Tom Kitt handles music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations.
The musical will return audiences to the halls of Padua High, where two sisters are navigating crushes, cliques, teenage rebellion and the eternal struggle of figuring out who you are when everyone else has an opinion about it. According to the production, this new take will focus on growing up, discovering yourself and refusing to live according to other people's expectations.
A loose adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, the original film was written by Karen McCullah and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and directed by Gil Junger. The 1999 movie gave Ledger one of his most memorable early roles, including his now-iconic performance of “Can't Take My Eyes Off You.”
Casting, theater and the rest of the creative team will be announced later.
How the musical will translate the film's most famous moments remains to be seen (as will which new songs will inevitably get added to cardio playlists around the country), but the combination of Dunham, Jepsen, Wheeldon and Kitt suggests this won't be the movie with some songs tossed in.
