If your legs are sore just from refreshing Instagram today, you’re not alone. The 2025 TCS New York City Marathon once again turned the five boroughs into one giant, joyful roar, with more than 55,000 runners streaming through the streets and two million New Yorkers cheering like they were personally invested in every mile.
On the pro front, it was a day for the history books. Hellen Obiri shattered a 22-year-old course record to claim her second women’s title in 2:19:51, while Benson Kipruto won the closest men’s finish in race history, edging Alexander Mutiso by three-tenths of a second. Marcel Hug notched his seventh NYC win in the men’s wheelchair division and Susannah Scaroni defended her women’s crown in commanding style.
But, as always, the city’s heart belonged to the thousands of everyday runners chasing something personal: a comeback, a first marathon, a cause close to home or just the wild idea that they could. From emotional finish-line reunions to high-fives in Harlem and confetti-level joy in Central Park, these are the moments that made the day.
