If your ideal 4/20 plans involve more than just standing in line at a dispensary, Long Island City has something a little more… interactive in mind.
Back for a second year after a buzzy debut, the Great Ganja Hunt turns the Queens neighborhood into a full-on scavenger playground on Saturday, April 18, offering a weed-adjacent adventure that’s both a neighborhood crawl and a social media game. The event is organized by TRENDS Dispensary, which will serve as both the starting point and finish line.
RECOMMENDED: A new Black-owned dispensary just opened in Long Island City
Here’s how it works: participants check in at the dispensary at noon, grab their first clue and then head out across the neighborhood, following a trail that winds through local businesses. At each stop, you’ll need to snap a photo, post it, tag the right accounts and collect a letter before moving on. By the end, you’ll have spelled out T-R-E-N-D-S and (hopefully) made it back before everyone else.
The whole thing runs up to four hours and while you can go solo, this definitely feels like a group-friendly type of event. Think competitive pub crawl energy, albeit cannabis adjacent.
There are also (very on theme) prizes. The first 10 people to complete the hunt will unlock prize packages valued at $420, while one grand prize winner will walk away with a $1,000 haul. Even if you’re not exactly racing through LIC like the Amazing Race, everyone who finishes will get something for their efforts, including a custom rolling tray.
The route is designed to spotlight local businesses, giving participants a reason to pop into spots they might otherwise pass by. It’s a clever way to turn 4/20 into something that feels a little more social.
If you’re in, tickets are (naturally) priced at $4.20. If you’re going to celebrate 4/20 in NYC, you might as well earn it.
