Coney Island is about to get a brand new kind of thrill. On March 21, Coney Island Escape Room will open its doors on Surf Avenue alongside the Cyclone, the Wonder Wheel and Nathan’s. If you're into riddles more than roller coasters, this attraction is for you.
Coney Escape Room will officially open at 1205 Surf Avenue, right on the corner of Surf and West 12th Street, directly across from Coney Island USA and Sideshows by the Seashore. It’s the first escape room in southern Brooklyn and a rare indoor attraction in a neighborhood that usually revolves around sunshine, sand and summertime crowds.

Groups of two to eight players are locked inside a themed room and given 60 minutes to crack codes, uncover clues and solve puzzles before time runs out. It's full-immersion mystery theater for family fun, friend groups and teambuilding.
Coney Escape Room launches with three scenarios, each leaning into the kind of eerie storytelling that feels right at home in the slightly surreal world of Coney Island.
One room drops players inside a haunted funeral parlor packed with unsettling clues and supernatural secrets. Another begins with a strange discovery on the boardwalk that spirals into a globe-spanning conspiracy and a tense interrogation room. The third adventure dives into pirate lore tied to New York’s coastline, sending teams on a hunt for long-lost treasure inspired by legends of the infamous 17th-century privateer William Kidd.
Behind the project are founders Anna Geller and Misha Koplan. Koplan brings serious visual storytelling credentials to the table, having worked as an animator and designer on films for Blue Sky Studios, Disney and Skydance, including Ice Age, Rio, Ferdinand and The Peanuts Movie. If those credentials are any indication, expect detailed sets enhanced with cinematic flare.
The venue will also feature a live game-show style experience with trivia and physical challenges, plus a gift shop and private party space for birthdays and team outings.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of Coney Escape Room’s arrival is the timing. It opens a week before Coney Island’s traditional season kickoff on March 28. And unlike the rides across the street, it plans to stay open long after summer ends, ushering in the promise of a reason to visit Coney Island in the winter.
Coney Escape Room will be open from noon to 9pm. Find out more at coneyescaperoom.com.
