Lower East Siders, it’s time to hit the docks.

The city officially launched the new LES route of the NYC Ferry service this morning offering residents of the area a fresh way to commute to Long Island City, Midtown East and the Financial District, and offering everyone else even more options for a cute and affordable second date.

The sixth to launch so far, the LES route has five stops along the East River—Wall Street/Pier 11, Corlears Hook, Stuyvesant Cove, East 34th St and Long Island City—for a nautical commute totaling a breezy 32-minutes. The new route, like the other five currently in operation, is operated by Hornblower on behalf of the city.

“With the launch of the 2018 routes, NYC Ferry is excited to expand across New York Harbor and continue to build neighborhood connections to the Bronx, Upper East Side and the Lower East Side,” said Cameron Clark, SVP of NYC Ferry, in a statement. “We encourage everyone to hop on board and explore these new, affordable routes that will enhance commutes and shorten travel times for thousands of New Yorkers.”

Tickets for the ferry, which are available for purchase on-board or through the NYC Ferry app, will remain at the current level of just $2.75. The app also offers an up-to-date schedule of when boats will be funning. In addition to wifi and charging stations, the ferries offer bars stocked with drinks and snacks (not to mention a sick view of the city skyline from the water). Another plus regarding the service is that you’ll never have to hear the words “train traffic ahead.”

With all previously announced routes now operational, Mayor De Blasio said at a press conference earlier today that the city would be making decisions regarding additional routes by the end of the year. (Any way to formally request one to Bermuda? It's gonna be a long winter.) The NYC Ferry system has served six million New Yorkers since launching in May 2017 and expects to serve 9 million customers by 2023.
