After nearly a decade as home to Atla, the corner of Lafayette and Great Jones is about to begin its next chapter.

Cosme is getting a new sibling this fall. This fall, Enrique Olvera and the Casamata team will open Bar Cosme at 372 Lafayette Street in NoHo, turning the former Atla space into a nightlife-focused restaurant and cocktail bar built around the Mexican restaurant's after-dark energy.

The idea, according to the team, came from a simple realization that Cosme’s buzz after dark deserved its own home—but that doesn't mean this is merely a cocktail bar with a few snacks. While drinks will be central to the experience, Bar Cosme plans to serve a full sharing menu, drawing on many of the techniques and flavors that made Cosme one of the city's defining modern Mexican restaurants.

Raw and lightly cooked dishes will be served alongside housemade tortillas and salsas, plus selections prepared over an asador, the live-fire grill that's become a hallmark of Mexican cooking. The drinks program arrives with equally serious credentials: Sebastián Tollius, whose résumé includes both Eleven Madison Park and Clemente Bar, will oversee cocktails. (The team says the beverage program has been developed with the same level of precision as the kitchen.)

The space itself will also undergo a complete rethink by Mexico City architecture firm Taller ADG, which designed the interiors, creating a room that reflects both sides of Cosme's identity and emphasizes rich materials and an intimate atmosphere.

The opening will also be the latest evolution in Olvera's New York restaurant empire. Atla, which closed this spring after nearly 10 years, introduced a more casual side of the chef's cooking and became a neighborhood staple thanks to favorites like its lobster burrito, tortillas and aguachiles. Meanwhile, Casamata's orbit has continued to expand: former founding partner Santiago Perez recently opened the taqueria Santo Taco in Nolita and Cosme is still one of the city's most sought-after reservations more than a decade after opening.

For New Yorkers mourning Atla's departure, Bar Cosme won't be a replacement. But if you've ever wished Cosme had somewhere to continue the night after dinner, your wish may be about to come true.
