Eataly Flatiron’s rooftop restaurant will be wintering in the Italian Alps this year.
Following up on this summer’s gorgeous Italian countryside-inspired space, Serra by Birreria, the market’s top floor will be trading verdant greenery for icy chic faster than you can say “Rosamund Pike in Die Another Day” when the brand-new Serra Alpina by Birreria opens to the public this Thursday.
The new restaurant, named for the rare flower Stella Alpina found only in the Northern Italian Alps, is covered with snow-white flowers, hanging chandeliers and twinkling lights. (It’s like walking into a snow globe with a full bar!) A retractable roof offers views of the surrounding skyline, and a new on-site hydroponic farm will grow herbs for the food and drink, including bush basil, pluto basil, nepitella, peppermint and marjoram.
The winter wonderland’s menu has a special focus on cheeses from the Northern regions of Italy like Trentino and Veneto. Guests can order Sciatt, which is made by frying Piave Vecchio (a Veneto cheese) into a buckwheat and beer batter or Gnocchi alla Romana with Taleggio fonduta and Maitake mushrooms. Gooey, delicious raclette will also be part of the menu with pairings ranging from potatoes and pickled vegetables to Prosciutto Cotto.
Ready to hitch up your sled and head over for a bowl of melted cheese alongside some spiced mulled wine? Well, if you head to the rooftop restaurant before November 18 you can take part in Eataly Flatiron Restaurant Fest, where you can get an incredible two-course Italian feast starting at $18. You can also add on a bottle from their $25 dollar collection curated by their wine experts.
