After two icy weeks off the water, NYC Ferry is easing back into service. Starting today, February 11, the system will resume a modified version of the Rockaway–Soundview route. It’s not a full comeback just yet, but for commuters who’ve been stuck on subways and buses since service shut down due to ice on January 27, it’s a welcome sight.
Here’s where boats will be stopping:
- Ferry Point Park
- Soundview
- East 90th Street
- East 34th Street
- Stuyvesant Cove
- Wall Street/Pier 11
If you’re headed to Sunset Park or Rockaway, though, you’ll need a backup plan. Those landings remain closed due to shifting ice conditions.
NYC Ferry suspended service last week as frigid temperatures led to a buildup of ice in the East River, Hudson River and New York Harbor. Now, with daytime highs finally creeping above freezing, conditions are slowly improving. According to the ferry operator, several landings along the western edge of the East River and in the Bronx have become consistently clear enough to operate safely.
That said, don’t expect everything to run like clockwork just yet. Officials are warning riders that lingering ice could still cause delays or temporary schedule changes. If you’re commuting, give yourself extra time and check for real-time updates before heading out the door.
There’s another wrinkle to keep in mind: ongoing marine construction at East 34th Street is forcing schedule adjustments to reduce congestion at the landing. That modified schedule is expected to stay in place through February 20 as additional routes come back online.
As for the rest of the system, it remains on pause for now. NYC Ferry says it’s monitoring landings daily and will announce additional re-openings as weather conditions continue to improve. The Ferry Point Park shuttle is also still out of service, though it’s expected to return in the coming days.
