Four drugstore lipsticks that are actually freaking awesome

So, you’re obsessed with lipstick? We get it: The never-ending quest to find the perfect hue for every occasion is a joyous challenge, but this addiction can be pretty pricey.

We’d love nothing more than to own every shade from Lipstick Queen’s infallible perfect-pout collection, but spending more than $10 on a small tube of rouge can really damage your bank account—and your soul. That’s why we’re steering clear of swanky beauty shops in New York (for now) and seeking refuge at our nearest drugstore. From Duane Reade to CVS, these joints are solid spots for nabbing awesome beauty buys—especially lipstick.

We’ve tried and tested four different lip products and our results show that these $15-and-under purchases might not be up to par in the packaging department, but the formulas are comparable—if not better—than some of the products we’ve snagged at high-end beauty counters.

NYX Butter lipstick, $6

Your lips will feel extra pampered after swiping on this hydrating shade. The delicate formula melts onto the lips and leaves a pretty satin finish. The lightweight coverage comes in handy, especially if you're prone to smudging.

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last lipcolor, $13

If you’re about to gorge on a three-course meal, this is the lipstick you should be wearing. L'Oréal claims the long-lasting formula stays on for 24 hours and you know what? It actually does—no reapplying necessary. From ruby reds to the perfect plum, the color selection is ace.

Revlon ColorBurst Matte balm, $8

Ah, finally, the perfect matte hue that won’t dry out your lips. Matte lipsticks can feel really chalky, but Revoln’s balms are super-pigmented, go on smooth and moisturize your lips, too.

Maybelline New York Baby Lips Dr. Rescue, $5

Chapped lips and lipstick do not mix. But Maybelline mastered a way for you to tint your pout and keep it extra-moisturized throughout the day. You'll notice a softer and smoother texture before the sun goes down.
