Going to camp has always been on my bucket list. As a child, I was never lucky enough to actually go to sleep-away camps like my peers, so you can imagine how excited I was to head to Club Getaway and live out the fantasy of sleeping in a cabin, taking long hikes and roasting s’mores with my newfound BFFs. Each day I spent in Kent, Connecticut was packed with these idyllic images of (adult) summer camp and much more.
I arrived Friday evening after hopping on a party bus after work, and I was ready for the festivities to begin. Camp dinner was yummy, the fellow campers were friendly and I was already organically meeting people and enjoying myself. After getting settled in my cabin, a toga party to celebrate the start of the weekend was waiting for me. This party had me donning a sheet with strappy gold sandals and reminiscing about college in the best possible way. I was loving it.
Despite having late night on Friday, I jumped out of bed Saturday morning eager to start the true camping experience. I used a bungee cord to soar on a trampoline, played Escape the Room, sipped wine and painted a canvas, and took a hike to the small, charming town of Kent. In the evening, we had a dinner party with classic camp food (including bacon on a stick) before heading to a big Western-themed extravaganza, complete with a mechanical bull.
Sunday morning was a dreary one, with campers getting ready to leave, but that didn’t stop the fun. We started the day with Bloody Mary bingo and ended it with s’mores around a campfire before finally heading back to the city.
Club Getaway was the first time camper's dream I was looking for. I can’t wait to go back again next summer.
