Last year, we asked over 34,000 city dwellers around the globe, as well as Time Out’s own network of local editors and city experts, to take a detailed survey where they could gush (or rant) about life in their home cities.

When the votes were tallied, New York won number one as hands-down the best city in the world (but we already knew that, didn't we?) Sure New Yorkers complain about hefty rent prices, slow walkers through Times Square and insufferable subway rides, but when you weigh in all the good, this place can still feel pretty unbeatable. (Aside from all the ghosting, that is.)

In the 2019 survey, New York topped the list for both diversity and culture, reflecting exciting new openings like the interdisciplinary cultural institution The Shed and the World’s Fare Festival of International Cuisine. NYC also ranked highly for drinking, dining, live music and nightlife. A massive 91% said there is always something to do or see in the so-called "capital of the world," which should come as no surprise in a city that never sleeps. There's a reason we have our own nightlife mayor.

Now, we’re doing the survey again! Take the Time Out Index 2020 now and tell us all of your current thoughts on living in New York. Your answers are anonymous, and it’ll take you about 10 minutes at the most to share your opinions. When you’ve answered all the questions, we’ll reveal the city that best matches who you are based on your responses (aka your "soul city"), so you can start planning your trip there ASAP.
