This summer, New York's most fascinating theatrical experiment is set to keep the magic going long after the curtain falls. Masquerade, Off-Broadway’s immersive reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera, will just announced an exclusive new late-night concert series that will mix the sultry sounds of jazz with Broadway standards and contemporary artistry.
Launching this week, After the Curtain, produced in collaboration with Concerts Under the Stars, will transform the show's lavish, open-to-the-public Lake Bar into a sanctuary for world-class music throughout July and August.
Masquerade breathes fresh, site-specific life into Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical with an immersive take on the classic. As Adam Feldman, Time Out New York's Theater and Dance Editor, said in his review, "The main attraction of Masquerade is not its stars, its story or its music of the night; it’s the pleasure of re-exploring a property you already know and seeing it from deluxe new angles."
And After the Curtain extends that spirit of exploration. Happening immediately following the evening performance, the series brings together a dynamic lineup of artists who seamlessly blend contemporary jazz with Broadway tradition and beyond.
The series begins this Friday, July 10 at 9:30pm. First up is Emmy-nominated trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III, presenting Sinatra & Louis Armstrong, a tribute to the timeless standards that shaped the jazz age. On Tuesday, July 21, Broadway star Ciara Renée takes the stage with a French-focused set that celebrates the icons Édith Piaf & Josephine Baker. Classical crossover genius Natalie Tenenbaum takes over on Friday, August 7 with a performance tracking the historic evolution of musical excellence across centuries, from Beethoven to Beyoncé. Finally, on Friday, August 21, Bernard Scahill—founder of Concerts Under the Stars and producer of the series—will reinvent theatrical Broadway anthems through an improvisational jazz lens.
Masquerade is scheduled to run through January 31, 2027. Find information and tickets at Masqueradenyc.com/latenight.
