Does your ideal night out involve dinner and a little spectacle? Clear your calendar for March 27. A buzzy East Village omakase spot is turning sushi service into full-on theater—and a 200-pound tuna is the star of the show.

Sushi by Bou is debuting “Tuna Spectacle,” a one-night-only event that turns the usual quiet omakase counter into something far more high-energy. From 9pm to 11pm at its East Village location, guests will gather around as a team of chefs breaks down an entire premium bluefin tuna in real time.

As the fish is carved—a process that involves incredible precision—guests will also be served a steady flow of freshly prepared nigiri made from the very tuna being sliced moments earlier. The experience includes a welcome sake toast, with additional drinks available to keep the night moving.

While whole tuna breakdowns are a time-honored tradition in Japanese seafood culture, they’re not something you typically see on a weeknight in Manhattan, let alone with a soundtrack. In true Sushi by Bou fashion, the evening leans into playful, social energy with music and even karaoke woven into the night.

The brand has built a following for its speakeasy-style sushi counters and tightly choreographed tastings, usually capped at just a handful of seats. This event takes that intimacy and flips it outward, turning the chef’s work into a shared, celebratory experience.

Tickets are priced at $125 per person and space is limited, so if you’re curious to see how a tuna goes from whole fish to pristine slices in a matter of minutes, you’ll want to move quickly. At the very least, it’s a chance to witness a level of craftsmanship that’s usually hidden behind the counter. At best, it might ruin your average sushi night forever.
