Looking to get your kids swimming with confidence? Manhattan families searching for high-quality youth swim instruction will have a brand new, state-of-the-art option this fall. Chelsea Piers has officially announced the upcoming opening of Chelsea Piers Swim at Pier 60. Launching in September 2026, this dedicated aquatics facility and comprehensive youth swim program are set to redefine swim education in New York City by prioritizing safety, structured skill progression and true water independence.
For years, local parents have struggled with overcrowded, shared pool environments. Chelsea Piers Swim changes the game with a purpose-built facility designed entirely around the student and parent experience. The new space features a 65-foot-by-20-foot pool heated to a comfortable 90 degrees year-round, backed by advanced UV and chlorine filtration that eradicates 99.9% of contaminants. Families will love the thoughtful touches, including heated locker room floors and an aerial mezzanine viewing area that lets parents observe lessons without disrupting the focused environment.
The program caters to all ages, offering a "cradle-to-competitive" pathway that begins with infant classes at just three months old and extends to advanced stroke development for teenagers. To ensure personalized attention, classes maintain industry-leading small ratios of 3:1, 4:1 or 5:1. Progress is tracked through a structured badge system, allowing children to celebrate visible milestones as they gain confidence.
"Chelsea Piers Swim was designed differently from the ground up," said Kate Tewksbury, Vice President at Chelsea Piers, noting that the curriculum reflects the brand's signature high standards. Christian Lajara, Director of Swim, added that the ultimate goal is "helping kids build real confidence and real capability over time."
Additional classes debuting exclusively for the include an introductory class geared towards older beginners ages 7 and up and a class for strong swimmers to prepare for advanced stroke development training.
Registration is officially open for the fall semester, with classes kicking off on September 10, 2026. To secure a spot and learn more about memberships, visit chelseapiers.com/swim-chelsea/programs.
