As a wise woman named Miley Cyrus once sang, “Ain’t about how fast I get there. Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb.”

No project in New York has embodied that time-worn inspirational ideal more than Thomas Heatherwick’s interactive sculpture, The Vessel, set to open this spring as the centerpiece of Manhattan’s brand-new neighborhood, Hudson Yards.

The $200 million sculpture consists of 154 interconnected staircases that combine to create over a mile of climbable pathways. What exactly are you climbing towards? Hush, sweet child, just lace up those sneakers and keep walking.

“The Vessel is a playground for everybody,” Jay Cross, president of Related Hudson Yards, the company behind the massive real estate project told us of the new monumental sculpture. “It’s a series of platforms and stairs, and there are an infinite number of routes to the top. It’s a public folly.”

Looking to get your folly on before the official March 2019 opening date? You’re in luck! In advance of tickets officially becoming available to climb the behemoth in February, you can now sign up for advance place on the list to be notified when tickets become available. Just enter your info here.

Hopefully, you won’t have to wait too long, however. The gleaming honeycomb installation can fit up to 1,000 people across it’s many, many stairwells at one time. Climb on!
