It's officially Gemini season, which means we might as well embrace NYC's capricious duality of grim, gray raininess and glorious sunshine. With this new devil may care attitude, we can look forward to a season of outdoor movie screenings, whatever the weather may bring us.
One of the crown jewels of summer outdoor movie season is the always-packed SummerScreen series at McCarren Park. The series' 13th season of free screenings begins July 11.
Here's the full lineup:
July 11: Jawbreaker
July 18: When Harry Met Sally
July 25: Love & Basketball
August 1: Hackers
August 8: Fantastic Mr. Fox
August 15: Die Hard
August 22: musical movie
August 29: audience choice
I know that we live in a benighted age or whatever, but can we take a moment and appreciate the fact that one of the most popular screening events in town is opening the summer with one of the campiest high school satires of all time, Jawbreaker? Doors open Wednesdays at 6pm, with live music at 7:30pm before the sundown showings. Expect food trucks, limited edition movie posters and more goodies at each screening.
