Sure, everything sounds better with a British accent—in theory. But can a posh accent and a cream tea make a commute from Grand Central to Times Square more bearable? We're about to find out.
For three days only, British Airways is taking over the Grand Central–Times Square Shuttle and turning it into something closer to a transatlantic flight. Part of the airline’s new “Everything’s Better with a British Accent” campaign, the activation transforms the S train into a whimsical, plane-inspired experience.

From Tuesday, April 21, through Thursday, April 23, between 10am and 2pm, commuters passing through Times Square–42nd Street station will discover cabin-style seating, destination-inspired visuals and—perhaps most jarringly—platform announcements delivered in polished British accents.
British Airways cabin crew will be stationed on the platform, handing out complimentary British cream teas, a move that feels equal parts charming and mildly surreal considering the elbowing and jostling that occurs on those platforms. There’s also a commuter contest in the mix, with riders able to enter for a chance to win 120,000 Avios, the airline’s loyalty currency.
In a statement, British Airways Chief Customer and People Officer Lisa Tremble said, “This campaign is about showing that it’s not just where we fly that makes British Airways different - it’s how we make people feel along the way. By leaning into our British accent, our humor and our character, we’re able to turn everyday moments into something more charming, more human and more memorable. The campaign brings this to life in an unexpected way that feels playful, confident and unmistakably British Airways.”
If the activation sounds a bit over the top, that’s the point. New York’s subway system isn’t exactly known for transportive escapism, and brands have increasingly treated it as a canvas for immersive, blink-and-you-miss-it stunts designed to break through commuter autopilot. The contrast is the hook, turning the shortest subway line into an illusion of airline travel in its platonic ideal form. Whether it's the photo op, the cream tea or just a lack of alternatives, when you take the S, for once, the journey will feel like the destination.
At least until someone walks on board and declares, "It's showtime!"
