The largest rock climbing gym in New York is coming to Brooklyn

A new climbing gym is coming to Gowanus, and we think it really rocks. You may be familiar with the Cliffs which currently has locations in Long Island City and Dumbo. Both are excellent facilities for learning the ropes, but diehard climbers might want to switch venues once the Gowanus center opens—it’s going to become New York City’s largest climbing gym, measuring in at 36,000 square feet!

There will be two floors for bouldering, a roped climbing section where the walls are as high as 40 feet as well as a 4,400-square-foot outdoor terrace which is also used for rock climbing. You can also expect a full-scale fitness gym and group fitness classes lie yoga. But the cherry-on-top amenities include a sauna and retail space, at which you can stock up on rock climbing gear and apparel, and a parking garage for New Yorkers with wheels. And you can count on the facility's awesome guides and instructors to put you at ease if you're a first-time adult or youth climber.

The only downside is we have to wait until the year 2020 for the $18 million project to be complete. But good news for Harlem residents: The Cliffs is opening a location there before the end of this year. Until then, make sure to utilize our list of the best indoor and outdoor rock climbing gyms in the city. But to paraphrase the lyrics of the great Miley Cyrus, it ain't about how fast it gets here—it's the climb. Yeah, let that sink in.
