Dating in New York comes with enough expenses before you’ve even figured out whether the person across the table is capable of asking follow-up questions. This month, at least part of that romantic hassle could be on someone else’s tab.
Zelle is partnering with NYC Ferry to cover rides on a different route every Thursday throughout October. There are five Thursdays this month, which means five opportunities to work harbor views into your romantic itinerary without paying for the boat ride. The free rides kicked off on October 1, on the St. George route; followed by the East River on October 8; Rockaway-Soundview on October 15; South Brooklyn on October 22; and finishing with Astoria on October 29.

The promotion accompanies Zelle’s NYC Affordable Date Night Guide, created with Ellie Williams, founder of the lifestyle and nightlife publication For the Girls. It collects ideas across all five boroughs, from ice cream at Julia Jean’s on the Lower East Side to a ceramics date at BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center in Long Island City.
One particularly wallet-friendly pick is Electrix Vintage’s Williamsburg pop-up on October 10 and 11, where you can fill a bag with vintage finds for $10. Native Rose’s Staten Island floral-and-coffee truck also offers $10 grab-and-go bouquets; its location varies.
According to Zelle’s New Economics of Dating Report, 84-percent of Gen Z and millennial respondents say rising costs have affected their dating lives. An affordable, thoughtful date was more likely to make a positive impression than an extravagant one, at 38-percent versus 23-percent.
Consider this permission, when it comes to New York dating, to keep things simple with a ferry ride and something sweet.
