New York City is about to celebrate the big Knicks championship, but for its youngest fans, the timing of the official parade brought a wave of heartbreak. Scheduled for Thursday at 10am, the historic ticker-tape parade directly clashes with school hours and high-stakes New York State Regents Examinations. Despite several online petitions from students and parents begging for a schedule shift, Mayor Mamdani confirmed in an interview with NY1 that school cannot be cancelled.

Fortunately, the Children's Museum of Manhattan has stepped in to save the day so fans of all ages can celebrate what many have been waiting 53 years to witness.

To ensure the city’s littlest die-hards don’t miss out, CMOM is hosting its very own Knicks Ticker-Tape Parade for Kids. It takes place today at 4pm—a day before the official city parade, and after the school bell rings.

“New York City’s youngest fans deserve a celebration made especially for them—scheduled and structured with our littlest New Yorkers at the center,” said David Schub, CEO of CMOM in a press release. “That’s what CMOM does. We bring the city’s biggest moments to its smallest fans.”

West 83rd Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam) will be completely shut down to traffic for the parade, which will be led by Grand Marshals Amy Schumer and Jessica Seinfeld. The celebration will feature an unforgettable lineup of entertainment:

  • A live performance by the Uncommon School Drumline and an NYC-themed dance party
  • Confetti cannons, blue and orange foam sticks and life-sized player cutouts for the ultimate photo ops
  • Face painting
  • Championship-themed arts and crafts

The event will take place outside the museum's current home at 212 West 83rd Street (The Tisch Building), ahead of their highly anticipated move to 96th Street and Central Park West in 2028.

The block party is completely free, open to the public and will run rain or shine. Families are encouraged to get decked out in full Knicks gear. School might be in session on Thursday, but Wednesday afternoon belongs to the kids.
