The New York City dining scene is welcoming a significant number of high-profile Indian restaurants this year, from the recently-opened Ambassadors Clubhouse to the upcoming outpost of Dishoom. This summer, a Michelin-starred Indian sensation from Chicago will open its doors. Chef Sujan Sarkar is bringing his famed Indienne to Hudson Yards. Located within the luxury residential building Henry Hall, this opening marks a high-profile homecoming for Sarkar, who previously captivated the city with Baar Baar before garnering national acclaim in Chicago.
Since its 2022 debut in Chicago’s River North, Indienne has been a disruptor in the fine dining space. It secured a Michelin star within its first year—the only Indian restaurant in Chicago to hold the honor—and earned spots on "Best New Restaurant" lists from Esquire and Bon Appétit. Sarkar, a 2024 James Beard finalist, now brings that momentum to a more intimate, 34-seat format designed to push Indian cuisine further into the global fine-dining conversation.
Indienne New York serves as a sophisticated canvas for Sarkar’s "progressive Indian" philosophy, where regional flavors of the subcontinent meet classical European techniques. The experience is centered around three distinct 9-course tasting menus: Non-Vegetarian, vegetarian, and vegan.
The progression begins with playful, chaat-inspired courses before moving into seasonal compositions that emphasize nuanced spice work and texture. To complement the meal, Beverage Director Chris Farrell has curated a wine program focused on small-production, terroir-driven bottles. Guests can also explore a sustainability-focused cocktail menu or a customizable Gin & Tonic program.
The restaurant’s aesthetic, a collaboration with MAPA Mueller, mirrors the refinement of the plate. The space unfolds through a series of rooms, transitioning from a golden ochre foyer to a main dining room featuring blush-toned velvet banquettes and leather wall coverings, Holi-inspired artwork by Ken Andjulis and an open kitchen that offers a glimpse of the culinary artistry.
Indienne is just the beginning of Sarkar’s New York expansion; it's the first of three distinct concepts he plans to launch within Henry Hall.
Indienne is located at 515 West 38th Street and will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5pm, with last reservations at 8:30pm Tuesday to Thursday and 9pm Friday to Saturday. Follow Indienne NYC on Instagram for updates.
