New York may specialize in microscopic hotel rooms and destination fees, but the city also knows how to deliver an exceptionally glamorous stay. Now, three local properties have earned spots on the extended World’s 50 Best Hotels list for 2026.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel landed highest among the New York contingent at No. 78, followed by Aman New York at No. 87 and The Greenwich Hotel at No. 92. Together, they represent three very different versions of sleeping fabulously in Manhattan: maximalist splendor, Midtown luxury and downtown cool.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel, set inside a restored Gilded Age mansion and an adjoining new tower at Fifth Avenue and West 28th Street, also received this year’s American Express Travel One To Watch Award. Designer Martin Brudnizki filled the hotel with jewel tones, patterned walls, and chandeliers. Its restaurants include Café Carmellini, led by chef Andrew Carmellini, and the atmospheric Portrait Bar.
Aman New York occupies the landmark Crown Building at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, where rooms start at a sprawling 750 square feet—a downright palatial amount of personal space by New York standards. The property includes a three-floor spa, private members’ club, garden terrace and several restaurants, all wrapped in the brand's well-known serene aesthetic.
The Greenwich Hotel, meanwhile, brings Robert De Niro-backed elegance to Tribeca. Its 88 individually designed rooms and suites mix furnishings and architectural details from around the world, while its subterranean Shibui Spa centers on a lantern-lit Japanese farmhouse in the middle of Manhattan. Locanda Verde, the hotel’s always-bustling Italian restaurant, provides a rather persuasive reason to leave the room.
The extended ranking covers hotels placed from No. 51 through No. 100 and was determined by votes from more than 800 anonymous hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and experienced luxury travelers. Nine North American hotels made this portion of the list, including five in the United States.
Asia led the regional tally with 20 hotels, seven of them in Japan, while Europe claimed 16 spots. The complete top 50 will be revealed at a ceremony in Paris on September 15. Until then, New Yorkers can enjoy the deeply satisfying knowledge that three of the world’s most celebrated places to check in are just a cab ride away.
