East Williamsburg has a new addition to its nightlife corridor and this one comes with a very clear message: put your phone away. Green Room, the latest project from the team behind Golden Record NYC, opened on November 14 and is already positioning itself as the spot for dancers who prefer to be seen only by the people who are actually in the room.

The concept grew out of a “what-if” moment at Signal, the other venue that Nick Spector, Golden Record’s founder, opened: what if the “green room” wasn’t backstage at all, but the entire club? The idea was to create a place where DJs and friends could actually relax, the opposite of a spectacle-first club. What you’ll find at 195 Morgan Avenue is more of a haven for the creative class and a room built for people who want to be on the dance floor instead of refreshing Instagram.

In practice, that means a strict no-photos rule and free phone lockers for anyone looking to fully commit to the moment. The focus here is on the space itself, which includes a sculptural wooden DJ booth, a burgundy marble bar, soft neon and a floating floor paired with a D&B Audiotechnik system for deep, balanced sound. Outside, there’s a courtyard with mirrored privacy booths.

The programming leans intentionally intimate: soulful house, queer-led nights and European minimal. The two launch weekends read like a sample of the city’s club landscape, featuring the likes of BASHKKA, Ash Lauryn, Byron the Aquarius, LYDO, Kienan Laveaux, Pearson Sound and more.

Considering that Green Room has risen within a neighborhood that churns out new nightlife concepts like clockwork, the destination feels like something pretty rare: a club built for people who actually want to be there, not people who want to post that they were.
