You can step inside a real-life episode of 'Black Mirror' at The Shed this summer

At least you'll be able to leave when it's over.

"The Black Mirror Experience," a new immersive attraction inspired by Charlie Brooker's hit dystopian anthology series, will make its U.S. debut at The Shed on June 20. Running through September 6, the limited-engagement experience promises to place visitors directly inside an original story set within the Black Mirror universe—complete with artificial intelligence, virtual reality and the creeping sense that something has gone terribly wrong. That is, of course, a universe distinct from the dystopian one in which we currently reside.

Unlike many TV-inspired attractions, this isn't a recreation of a favorite episode. Instead, producers have created an entirely new narrative designed specifically for the immersive format. Guests are invited to the grand opening of a showroom belonging to Phaethon, a powerful technology company preparing to unveil LifeAgent, a humanoid robot built to streamline your life, anticipate your needs and help you become your "best self."

Naturally, things don't stay perfect for long.

The 60-minute experience combines physical sets with free-roaming virtual reality technology, allowing groups of up to six participants to move through the story together as its central characters. No prior knowledge of Black Mirror is required, though longtime fans will recognize the show's signature blend of technological optimism and existential dread. (Again, separate from our current reality.)

According to producers, the attraction was developed by Banijay Live Studio in partnership with immersive technology company Univrse, whose previous projects have pushed the boundaries between live entertainment and virtual worlds. The goal, they say, is to move beyond traditional VR experiences that simply transport audiences somewhere else.

"With The Black Mirror Experience, you're no longer visiting a world," Banijay Live CEO François de Brugada said in a statement. "You're the protagonist of the story."

The project arrives with some serious credentials. The Black Mirror Experience just received the Special Jury Prize in the Immersive Competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, which recognizes innovative storytelling using virtual reality, mixed reality and other emerging technologies. It is currently in its world premiere in Montreal, with its European premiere set for June 4 at Espacio Delicias in Madrid.

For The Shed, the production is another example of the institution's commitment to large-scale immersive works that blur the lines between theater, technology and contemporary art. "Black Mirror has always explored the intersection between humanity and technology, shaping how we see ourselves and one another in our modern age,” said Alex Poots, The Shed's Artistic Director. “This US premiere at The Shed brings audiences into a new episode of Black Mirror in innovative and intimate ways, placing them at the center of the accelerating relationship between technology and contemporary life.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 28 at 10am, with a 24-hour advance presale available for Shed members. For more information and to buy tickets, click here.
