Time Out says
If Breads Bakery only sold its chocolate babka and nothing else, we'd still sing its praises to no end. But this exceptional Israeli bakery offers a stellar array of breads, pastries and sandwiches. So, naturally, we invited it to hold court at Time Out Market New York. We tasted its food, reviewed the eatery and had no hesitation in recommending Breads Bakery for a spot at the market. Here’s why:
Head over to Union Square for this 9,000-square-foot bakeshop. Grab one of 25 seats for a warm chocolate croissant or take out a box of the baked treats if you don't want strangers to see you licking chocolate off your fingers. You can also pick up a range of breads, including Danish ryes, fresh focaccia and crusty baguettes. Oh, and you can't leave without buying the chocolate babka, one of the best (if not the best) in the city.

You cannot go wrong with Breads Bakery. Everything here is spot-on, from simpler baguettes to more decadent pastries. Breads probably has the most delicious babka n the whole city. And the almond croissants, generally my favorite thing ever, are incredible. You can definitely buy beautiful, intricate loaves of bread here. The cheese breads are flaky, light and airy with just the right amount of sharp cheese baked on top. Breads Bakery also has a really well-priced café (and it's right near Union Square, so you can take everything to-go if you want to sit in the park). A smoked salmon sandwich for $7.50? Yes please.
Yes, chocolate babka is what you need to get here. Try it and you won't be disappointed. Some of their other regular bread loafs are excellent but the sweets and pastries are what this place is known for.
The smell alone is intriguing enough for anyone to enter. They give out free samples of their chocolate babka, which is to die for (coming from someone who doesn't really like chocolate)! They also have cute little sandwiches for breakfast, which are all delicious. It's a great place for coffee and a pastry or a light breakfast with a friend or colleague.
Breads Bakery is a welcome edition to a bakery less neighborhood. Since they opened, I have tried everything in the store. The breads and pastries are just plain delicious and everyday there is something new to taste. It is reminiscent of an old world bakery with the innovation of the present time. I give Breads Bakery 5 Stars. Welcome to Gramercy.
