It's a fact: some of the best things in New York can be found in the smallest of spaces. Case in point: The Sandwich Board. Sticking out on Eldridge Street thanks to a fresh coat of teal paint (it was previously red), the walk-up joint is exactly that—a flipped-open window where you have to duck your head slightly to chat with the host inside. Before stepping up to the plate, check out the actual sandwich board to read the specials, most of which feel like a love letter to the city's diverse culinary scene. Breakfast includes the roti john with curry mayo and a Malaysian egg**,** plus the popular mala wrap with Chinese sausage and fluffy eggs kicked up with a spicy mala aioli. Lunch specials are just as noteworthy, with the duck tsangwich (pronounced "sang-wich") earning particular props. Shredded Cantonese-style duck comes slick with just enough hoisin sauce and cucumbers to balance the meat's savoriness. Better yet, it's sandwiched inside a sweet, pillowy pineapple bun sourced from a local baker. There is a dine-in area, but it appears to still be under construction. Luckily, there are teal-colored benches outside where you can park yourself and dig into your sandwich.
