    Altman Luggage
This New York institution has been around since 1920, offering a huge selection of luggage from upscale brands such as Zero Halliburton, Bric’s and T-Tech by Tumi. Although the store is hard to navigate—rolling suitcases are stacked high on shelves, while upright carry-ons and duffels flood the floor—a quick scan of the room from a narrow walkway dividing the space will reveal multiple choices you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Vera Bradley floral-print rolling bags ($320), Kenneth Cole Reaction wheeled uprights ($340) featuring leather trim and stud details, and vibrant Heys hard-side polycarbonate carry-ons ($139) make boring black luggage look downright depressing. In addition to fancy pens ($10–$5,000) and midrange watches ($50–$500), the back of the shop stocks small travel accessories, including Mulholland Brothers leather shave kits ($145), Eagle Creek fleece neck pillows ($24) and Travelon digital luggage scales ($21). Free next-day delivery to all five boroughs for purchases over $99 makes the subway ride home less cumbersome. Mention TONY to receive a free luggage scale (worth $25) with any purchase over $100 through November 24. 135 Orchard St between Delancey and Rivington Sts (212-254-7275, altmanluggage.com)

    Ambassador Luggage
For an educational crash course on all things luggage-related, head to this official Tumi retailer, opened by Saeed Zia in 1982. His son Subi, who manages the store, is a luggage whiz who can explain the history behind each brand, list product details as if he’s memorized the specs and even namecheck the celebrities who own the items. For example, he notes that Pippa Middleton carries Knomo’s quilted laptop case ($100) every day, that rapper Flo Rida travels with Tumi’s hard-side rolling packing case ($645) and that David Macklovitch from electrofunk duo Chromeo nabbed Hartmann’s tweed wheeled garment bag ($595). For those of us with real-life budgets, Samsonite’s hard-side floral-print spinner luggage ($199) is an attractive and more wallet-friendly option. Free delivery within Manhattan on all purchases will help make you feel like an A-lister. Mention TONY for 20 percent off all full-priced items through June 21. 371 Madison Ave between 45th and 46th Sts (212-972-0965, ambassadorluggage.com)

    Flight 001
During an Air France flight in 1998, business travelers John Sencion and Brad John came up with the idea for this streamlined shop, which carries everything a frequent flyer could need under one roof. That of course includes a sturdy bag, and you’ll find plenty of fashion-forward options toward the back of the modern white space, including Lipault lightweight nylon duffels ($190), Herschel Supply Co. color-blocked duffel bags with built-in shoe compartments ($100) and Hideo Wakamatsu trolleys ($190) made of tarpaulin fabric, a flexible, water-resistant material. Fill your new luggage with functional travel accessories, such as Maptote denim Dopp kits ($30) emblazoned with drawings of essential toiletries and house-line SpacePak three-piece nylon bag sets ($98) that organize and compress items to conserve valuable suitcase space. Mention TONY for 15 percent off all purchases (excluding gift cards) through June 7. 96 Greenwich Ave between Jane and W 12th Sts (212-989-0001) • 132 Smith St between Bergen and Dean Sts, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn (718-243-0001) • flight001.com

    Innovation Luggage
This tristate chain may read generic with its wood paneling and Top 40 soundtrack, but what it lacks in ambiance it makes up for with its wide variety of merchandise covering every aspect of travel. Fancy leather briefcases ($180–$400) and laptop bags ($100–$400) from brands including Briggs & Riley, Claire Chase and Tumi are ideal for business travelers, while playful Kipling duffel bags ($139), accessorized with matching monkey charms, and Heys rolling luggage ($350), adorned with the New York City skyline, will appeal to informal explorers. We’re smitten with French line Lipault’s carry-ons ($189), which collapse into a clear plastic bag for easy storage. If basic black is your luggage color of choice, bright accessories such as My Bag leopard luggage tags ($8) and Lewis N. Clark neon minipadlock sets ($8) will make your goods easier to find in baggage claim. Mention TONY for 15 percent off all purchases (except Tumi luggage) through September 3. 5. For The Go
Whether you’re traveling by train, plane or automobile, this all-encompassing shop has luggage, accessories and commuter-friendly toiletries to make any trip feel first class. Owner Moshe Mittelman, whose father ran and operated Luggage Plus on the Lower East Side for 25 years, is using this 700-square-foot space as a launchpad for his concept shop, which will open in a larger location nearby in June. You won’t find much brand-name luggage here, but there are plenty of affordable and reliable pieces, including Eagle Creek wide-body denim carry-ons ($180) with padded handles, Atlantic rolling uprights ($80) that weigh just 6.5 pounds and Travelpro duffels ($60) made from water- and stain-resistant polyester. Innovative items such as Kuhi Comfort adjustable neck pillows ($40) that support both sides of your head and inflatable VinniBags ($27), which prevent breakage of wine bottles and other fragile items in transit, make getting to your destination more enjoyable. Mention TONY for 10 percent off all purchases through June 21. 908 Driggs Ave between Division Ave and South 9th St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-367-8434, forthego.com)

    Crumpler
This Australian brand’s sporty, colorfully accented ripstop messenger bags ($45–$130) are popular with bike couriers for their water-resistant, durable exteriors. Those same sturdy qualities apply to the full range of luggage ($65–$320), camera bags ($15–$285) and backpacks ($25–$216), which you’ll find at Crumpler’s sole NYC store (the original Nolita location recently closed to make way for a new retail concept, opening in June). Until last year, bags were made to order on-site at the gray-walled shop. Although the bespoke aspect is gone, the products have enough intuitive features to make them feel as if created just for you. To wit, large wheeled duffels ($265) contain water-resistant dry bags for storing toiletries or wet clothes, while rolling carry-ons ($220) feature easy-to-reach front laptop pockets. Other thoughtful design details include space-saving 40-liter lightweight duffels ($65) that fold up into a small pouch. You can also rest easy that your cargo will be able to withstand careless handling—every Crumpler model goes through a travel-simulation torture test, in which it’s dropped, dragged and pulverized multiple times. On the off chance an item does suffer damage, it’s covered by the company’s “til death do us part” warranty, which includes repairs and replacements at no extra cost. Mention TONY for 20 percent off all purchases through June 7. 49 Eighth Ave between Horatio and Jane Sts (212-242-2535, crumpler.com)

    The Bag House
Owner Hiro Irie came to New York in the 1960s as an exchange student from Japan and has provided travel gear and luggage to city dwellers since 1974. The spartan store is packed to the brim with carriers from dependable brands such as Victorinox, Halliburton and LeSportsac, and clearly caters to the NYU students in the neighborhood, considering that a massive wall is dedicated to North Face backpacks ($40–$165) and Manhattan Portage messenger bags ($40–$120). If you’ve since outgrown wearing JanSport reversible leopard-print backpacks ($51), more mature options include Eagle Creek four-wheeled uprights ($314) and Baggallini rolling totes ($171) done up in a sophisticated, subtle giraffe print. Mention TONY for 10 percent off all purchases (excludes Deuter, Eagle Creek, Jansport, Kipling, LeSportsac, North Face, Rimowa and Victorinox) through May 31. 797 Broadway between 10th and 11th Sts (212-260-0940, thebaghouse.com)
