Conceived by the brain-expanding David Byrne, who wrote the score with big beat pioneer Fatboy Slim, this concept musical about the rise and fall of Filipino first lady Imelda Marcos—a kind of disco Evita—was a big hit when it premiered at the Public Theater in 2013. A decade later, it is making a bold leap to the Great White Way, upending the traditional seating plan of the Broadway Theatre to accomodate aspects of director Alex Timbers and choreographer Annie-B Parson's original immersive dance-club staging. Casting for Imelda has not yet been announced, but Jose Llana and Conrad Ricamora reprise their original roles as Ferdinand Marcos and Ninoy Aquino, respectively, and Filipina Broadway pioneer Lea Salonga joins the cast for the first few weeks as Aquino's mother.
