Sondheim on Sondheim

Time Out says

The cult of Stephen Sondheim is the closest thing Broadway has to religion. Now comes this pleasant, reverent revue—a PBS-style multimedia musical, in which the great one appears on video to comment on his own work. Directed by James Lapine, the show often seems aimed at Sondheim connoisseurs, but if so, then what can explain some of the cheesier industrial-style staging and college-singing-group arrangements—or, for that matter, the uneven central casting? Barbara Cook, Leslie Kritzer and Euan Morton belong here; Vanessa Williams and Tom Wopat are out of their depth.—Adam Feldman
