Time Out says

Join more than 2,000 volunteers to pack close to 1,000,000 meals for City Harvest and Food Bank of New York City in this event for 9/11 Day, a national day of service and remembrance. In addition to doing a good deed, you'll be volunteering alongside the cast of Come From Away, Grammy-nominated singer Ryan Shaw, Sing Harlem, “Singing Policeman” Daniel Rodriguez and more.

Since 2016, when 9/11 Day launched its annual Meal Pack projects, 9/11 Day has donated more than 20 million meals to food banks throughout the nation. 9/11 Day was founded by New Yorkers David Paine and Jay Winuk who have gotten the support and participation of companies, nonprofits, municipalities, universities, faith-based organizations, corporate titans, U.S. presidents and other political leaders and countless others to hold a day of charitable service in the U.S.

This event "will be an example of local people’s commitment to marking the anniversary of 9/11 by serving their neighbors in need," event organizers said.
