Time Out says

If you decide to check out this famed rink, be prepared for hordes of children and slow-moving newbies. There won’t be room for speed skating or fancy tricks, but braving the crowds is worth it for the priceless Central Park scenery. If you’re a skating greenhorn yourself, take heart—Trump Rink is home to the largest learn-to-skate program in the country.

Loved the ice skating experience at Wollman Rink. It is much bigger and less crowded than Rockefeller Centre, and in my opinion the surroundings are so much nicer with its situation in Central Park. I visited on Christmas Day which was magical, but I have no doubt any day would be just as good - its a perfect NYC experience. Beware of the Zamboni times, best to time your visit around these so you aren't waiting around for half an hour whilst they resurface the ice.

This skating rink is significantly underrated - it's larger than the rink at Rockefeller Center and less crowded than the space at Bryant Park's Winter Village. The prices are reasonable and the food they offer is delicious. It's a perfect NYC date locale  - so long as you can get past the big "TRUMP" signs on the rink.
