Time Out says

Cheer on the chess players at Chess in the Park, an annual free chess tournament open to players of all ages and experience levels. Games are played in Central Park at Bethesda Fountain. While pre-registration has closed, players will be added on-site if there is space available.

Chess sets, trophies, medals, and other prizes will be awarded after the last round. In
addition to the main tournament, there will be a full menu of chess-inspired fun and brain-stimulating activities including a Grandmaster Speed Chess Match and chess puzzles to test your skill.
