Time Out says

A runner-up of one of USA Today's “Best Cultural Festivals” returns to Brooklyn.

On Friday, June 19, the fifth annual Juneteenth Food Festival takes place. A collaborative event co-hosted by the digital publication Black-Owned Brooklyn and the Weeksville Heritage Center, the festival will be held at the historic Weeksville site, which was home to one of the largest free Black communities in the United States before the Civil War. The day will honor the Texas-born holiday with food, entertainment and music, done the Brooklyn way.

Over 30 food vendors and artisans will be participating this year, spanning the African-American, Caribbean, Latin American and African diaspora. Returning on the food front is Nigerian eats from Bed-Stuy's Brooklyn Suya, Ethiopian-Eritrean cuisine from Makina Cafe and jerk brisket from Jase's BBQ. Somethin' a little sweet comes in the form of goodies from BKLYN BlendBrooklyn Tea and Brownstone Cheesecakes. Brooklyn's BEM | Books & more, one of the first Black-owned, food-centric bookstores in the country, will be on-site, as will the competitive double-dutch performers, Jazzy Jumpers. As for tunes, the lineup is stacked with Saint James Joy, DJ Tara, Donwill and DJ Monday Blue providing tunes all afternoon long.

The event starts at noon and goes until 8pm. Entry is free. Keep an eye on Black-Owned Brooklyn's Instagram for more announcements.
