MLB FoodFest is happening next month and you can try food from all 30 ballparks

MLB FoodFest is happening next month and you can try food from all 30 ballparks

Ever wanted to try the food from the 30 MLB ballparks at once, without even booking a plane ticket? Major League Baseball is bringing back its food fest featuring concession favorites from every region of the U.S. in September. It’s the perfect event for people who love eating the food just as much as (maybe even more than) watching the game. We aren’t talking about the traditional ballpark fare (even though there’s nothing more sentimental than a classic warm pretzel). Trade the typical hot dog for a Stuggy’s Crab Mac N Cheese Dog courtesy of the Baltimore Orioles. You’ll have the opportunity to try Toasted Grasshoppers from the Seattle Mariners and Rocky Mountain Oysters from the Colorado Rockies. There will be plenty of fried front-runners, like the Texas Rangers' ginormous Dilly Dog and the Chicken and Bubble Waffle from the Miami Marlins. For lighter fare, head to the West coast booths for a Padres’ Mahi Mahi Taco or a Smoked Pork Belly Bao Bun from the LA Dodgers. See the full menu of all-stars below.    MLB FoodFest   The fest will take over Center 415 near Bryant Park on September 21 and 22, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Tickets cost $35 and get you access to the venue for two hours to devour all 30 of the different food items with complimentary Coca-Cola beverages. The portions are scaled-down, so you should have room to taste everything! If you need a break between tastings, work off all the treats at a Home Run Derby Virtual Reality experience. See a dazzling Sturgeon Moon in NYC this week

See a dazzling Sturgeon Moon in NYC this week

If you were lucky enough to catch the Perseid meteor shower earlier this week, New York stargazers should be over the moon to hear that a beautiful Sturgeon Moon will follow it. We are treated with a full moon every month when it aligns directly opposite the sun. August’s full moon is set to happen at 8:29am on August 15, according to experts. To catch the moon in its orange and red wholesome beauty, you are going to want to look for it closer to twilight when it's near the horizon. That’s a little bit before 6am and a little after 8:20pm on Thursday, August 15. On Friday, have your cameras ready by 6:56am and 8:50pm. Good thing the moon will still seem 100% full to our human eyes a day before and after Thursday. The best time to snap a photo will be on a night with clear skies. August’s full moon will rise in Aquarius (for those astronomy lovers).  Why the Sturgeon Moon? Back in the day, Native American tribes named the months according to seasons. The full moon for August was called the Sturgeon Moon because of giant sturgeon swimming in abundance in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain during this time. If you go out to gaze at the sky this week, don't forget to share your photos with us by tagging #TimeOutNewYork.

Where to see the Perseid meteor shower tonight in NYC

Where to see the Perseid meteor shower tonight in NYC

Star light, star bright. New Yorkers have a chance to wish upon a whole bunch of shooting stars tonight!  It's time again for the annual Perseid meteor shower. The summer shower is considered the best one of the year, according to NASA. Perseid meteors are caused by debris left behind by the Comet Swift-Tuttle. They began streaking across the skies in late July but peak the night of August 12. If you want a chance to see the radiant streaks and exciting fireballs light up the sky, you are going to have to wake up super early on Tuesday, August 13. Experts say the best time to see the show will be between 2am and dawn, but visibility will be low this year. Thanks to the full moon, NASA says there will only be a few minutes of dark sky between moonset and twilight. The darkness of the sky is key for optimal viewing. Instead of being able to spot 60 meteors per hour at peak, it’s estimated you might see less than 20 this year. You don’t need any special equipment to watch the Perseids, but New York City lights might outshine this meteor shower. The best viewing spots are a bit outside city limits. Many nearby state parks are even staying open late just for stargazers.  If you’re planning on staying in the city, rooftops or clearings in Central Park or Inwood Hill Park are your best bet. Even the riverfront is a good option. If you would rather stay in your pajamas, you can watch NASA’s livestream on Facebook starting at 8pm. Don't forget to share your photos with us by tagging #

A colorful new Love Wall is on view for Pride at Columbus Circle

A colorful new Love Wall is on view for Pride at Columbus Circle

If the above mural looks familiar, it's probably because there's a good chance you’ve already seen or posed for a photo in front of one of these vibrant bleeding hearts on facades across the city. Creator and self-taught artist JGoldcrown has traveled with his spray paint cans to color the walls of countless locations in places like New York, California, Chicago, Japan and Brazil. JGoldcrown’s latest artwork commemorates WorldPride Month and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. He has spray-painted dozens of his hearts onto a black background using fourteen different spray paints encompassing all the colors of the rainbow. JGoldcrown also designed a limited edition fashion pin featuring his iconic hearts for people to wear during Pride month. “This piece is special for what it’s representing,” JGoldcrown said of the pins in a press release. “I think how far we’ve come in even ten years is very positive. There will always be hate but it’s important to represent and come back louder, so being a part of this is very important because as humans everyone deserves a choice and I’m supporting a lot of my friends, too.” You can snag one of these free pins at the guest services desk at The Shops at Columbus Circle. The #LoveWall is located on the ground floor and will be on display until June 30.

A library on wheels is hitting New York City streets

A library on wheels is hitting New York City streets

Never make it to the library to check out a book or always forgetting to return the one you just finished? Now there might be an easier way for you to take advantage of all the resources at the New York Public Library than schlepping to your local branch. NYPL is rolling out three bright red bookmobiles to travel the streets of New York City. It will serve residents in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island. It’s the first library on wheels to serve the public in decades. Here are some photos of the early “book wagons” in NYC.   Readers choosing books and checking them out, ca. 1920s. You’ll be able to flip through the books curbside, check out a book to take home, return books, renew books or even sign up for a library card. NYPL hopes the bookmobiles will provide supplemental service to areas of the city where some branches are temporarily closed. The Grand Concourse Library in the Bronx is currently closed for renovations, so the Bronx bookmobile will start driving the streets in June to serve residents of that area. The Staten Island an

Jump around in artist Cj Hendry’s new Brooklyn bounce house

A new 3,000 square foot bounce house has landed in Dumbo, Brooklyn, but it’s not the typical inflatable structure you might remember from your childhood. Spoiler: It's actually an interactive art piece!  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cj Hendry (@cj_hendry) on Apr 9, 2019 at 2:08pm PDT The play zone is all-white with padded walls that are 14 feet tall, and resembles the similar walls you might find inside an old-school mental hospital. More psychological themes can be found throughout the space as the bounce house is just a fun and playful component to a new art installation titled "RORSCHACH." The show is by New-York based artist Cj Hendry who is known for her black-and-white pen drawings of objects and kitsch pop-culture. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cj Hendry (@cj_hendry) on Nov 19, 2016 at 5:32am PST Displayed along the walls of the bounce house, visitors can see Hendry's colorful and abstract drawings, which were made using colored pencils even though the works look a lot like paintings. That was also intentional as the art is said to be a juxtaposition of children’s squish paintings and psychological inkblot (Rorschach) tests. If you're not familiar, psychologists use inkblots as an attempt to examine the personality characteristics and emotional functioning of their patients. During the test, people are shown 10 different irregular figures.  View this post on Instagr

See life-size sculptures of Cardi B, Jaden Smith, Juice WRLD and Gunna at the Brooklyn Museum

You can see life-size sculptures of Cardi B, Jaden Smith, Juice WRLD and Gunna at the Brooklyn Museum this weekend. The music icons are the 2019 inductees of Spotify’s RapCaviar Pantheon, a reflection on hip-hop today and what it will become in the future. Spotify chose to honor these artists with statues because of their "undeniable impact on hip-hop."“Spotify is committed to supporting young, innovative artists who also have a positive impact on the music industry, culture, and society,” said Carl Chery, Spotify’s Hip-Hop curator and Head of RapCaviar in a news release. “These four bold and fearless artists are striving to make changes with their music, and we’re thrilled to induct them into the program.”Each statue aims to capture the artist’s vibrant personalities. Cardi B is holding her cellphone in her sculpture, which is a nod to her influence going beyond music and owning the cultural conversation. Spotify Jaden Smith’s sculpture has two heads, which is said to represent his highly conceptual music and his unconventional journey from child actor to rapper and artist. It also symbolizes the dueling characters in his music. Spotify Juice WRLD has been blurring the lines between hip-hop, pop, rap and emo. So his sculpture was inspired by the mythological Greek Titan Atlas at rest. The Titan was condemned to carry the universe and this sculpture is a nod to the vulnerability in Juice WRLD’s music. Spotify Gunna is holding a snake, which symbolizes the recurring serp

It might be spring, but winter is coming to Rockefeller Center. Please don't call Whole Foods' new corner store a bodega

The neighborhood bodega holds a special place in New Yorkers’ hearts. Shopping at 3am in our slippers is one of our guiltiest pleasures. The small grocery store is our go-to for all of the essentials, from breakfast sandwiches to cute feline friends. So what if we told you that Whole Foods Market might want to cash in on the NYC grab-and-go concept? The company just opened a Whole Foods Market Daily Shop in Chelsea at 7th Ave. and 25th Street, right next to its regular Whole Foods Market.   Let’s be real, the Whole Foods Market Daily Shop is a lot different from the classic NYC bodega. It’s got the basics like coffee, fresh produce, hot food and toiletries, but some could say it’s a little more upscale. It features kombucha on tap, a build your own açaí bowl station, and mochi. There are also self-checkouts. You can't access the Daily Shop 24 hours a day, instead it's open seven days a week from 6am-11pm. Whole Foods has also made sure some of its products have local roots, like Gotham Greens salad dressings, Balthazar Bakery breads, New Yorker Bagels, Dunwell Doughnuts and Lilly’s cookies. Here are some photos showing what the new convenience store looks like inside.   There is a coffee, juice and kombucha bar run by Allegro inside. Whole Foods     You can build your own açaí bowl.
