There's no shortage of art galleries in Singapore, from our big-name institutions to more under-the-radar gems. But if it is works by local and regional photographers you're looking for, Singapore is home to a few photography galleries that will excite any shutterbug. Get acquainted with some of the region's most talented photographers at these cool spaces around town.

Helmed by Gwen Lee and Jay Lau, the same team behind 2902 Gallery, DECK is an independent art space dedicated to nurturing photography enthusiasts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Its unique shipping container structure on Prinsep Street has reached the end of its lifecycle and will be demolished by March 2021, but the gallery will still run its programming online and at satellite venues across Singapore – until it finds a new home, that is. 

In case you haven't checked it out, the Singapore International Photography Festival, is running through the end of this month. 

STPI Creative Workshop and Gallery

Nestled along the banks of Robertson Quay is STPI Creative Workshop and Gallery. Since it was established in 2002, the contemporary art gallery has promoted artistic experimentation in the mediums of print and paper.

STPI has collaborated with top international artists – including the region's most revered photographers – in unique, ground-breaking projects. Some of the names under its belt include prolific fashion and portrait photographer Russel Wong, multi-disciplinary Japanese artist Shimabuku and more.

Objectifs Centre for Photography & Filmmaking

The safe haven for photography-lovers in Singapore, this filmmaking and photography hub was established in 2003 in an iconic building in Bras Basah. It has garnered a huge following of enthusiasts wanting to further their knowledge in either craft.

Besides holding regular courses and workshops, they also create awareness by organising photography exhibitions, film screenings and talks. The establishment also spearheads Objectif Films in partnership with Infinite Frameworks and Shooting Gallery Asia. Together, they distribute the largest number of short films in South-East Asia and represent award-winning short films from our region.

Sundaram Tagore Gallery

Established in 2000, with other branches in New York City and Hong Kong, the gallery focuses on contemporary artworks which explore the Western and non-Western cultural exchange. Besides poetry readings, book launches, music performances and film screenings, Sundaram Tagore also has a robust photography program that includes some of the world’s most noted photographers.
