Discover our neighbourhoods in the July issue

If you live in the east, the grass isn’t greener on the other side. It’s more a dirty shade of brown. I realised that only a few months after I moved from Tampines to an apartment in the west. There’s hardly any good, cheap food around, let alone supper spots (I am Singaporean, after all). And when the nearest cinema from your place is in Orchard, you know there’s something strange in your neighbourhood.

But who’re ya gonna call? Us, of course. We went on the hunt for the hippest heartland ’hood in Singapore, weighing in factors such as dining, leisure, culture and heritage, and shopping. Think of it as our very own, 100 percent unscientific ‘liveability’ report. Find out who emerged victor in our Neighbourhood Wars.

That’s not the only love letter to the city in this issue. Seven filmmakers have each shot a short tribute to Singapore, and are presenting their work in the mini-festival, 7 Letters.

And the Singapore STories exhibition plumbed the photo archives of The Straits Times to offer us a glimpse into the past.
