Growing up in the heartlands, my days were spent playing in sandy playgrounds complete with monkey bars and tyre swings, arguing with fellow eight-year-olds on who gets a turn next. I’d have chicken rice at the kopitiam and go to school five bus stops away. Times were different then – but somehow the essence of living in the heartlands has remained the same. This issue, we rediscover some of our favourite ‘hoods: Punggol, Bedok, Clementi and more, for a slice of local life away from the flurry of the CBD.

Here's one for all you vegetarians out there. Eating is now a breeze with these vegetarian-friendly restaurants and serve up meat-free versions of local dishes.
