It’s no secret that Singapore is one of the safest cities in the world. The city has earned its stripes over the years, having ranked the safest city for tourists last year and named the fourth best destination globally for solo female travellers just this year.
But according to the latest data from Numbeo, a crowdsourced database tracking cost of living and quality of life, Singapore just misses the top spot for the safest city in Southeast Asia. The survey takes into account surveyees’ crime perception, safety during the day and night, concerns about various crimes including theft and harassment, and the severity of both property and violent crime.
Numbeo’s safety index is calculated from five years of user-submitted data and scores each city out of 100. Topping the list this year is Chiang Mai, Thailand with a score of 78.2. Singapore follows closely behind at 77.4, while Hanoi, Vietnam takes third place with 65.9.
