You might want to put those hard-earned KrisFlyer miles to work real soon, because Singapore Airlines has just announced its first devaluation exercise since 2022. While a majority of redemption categories are seeing an increase in miles required, a select few are actually getting rate reductions – a small but welcome silver lining. On top of that, travellers can also look forward to newly launched Scoot Award Flights and a debut of an Access category for flight redemption. Here’s everything you need to know.
What does the devaluation of KrisFlyer miles mean for travellers?
Simply put, the devaluation of KrisFlyer miles means that you’ll now need to spend more miles to redeem the same flights compared to before. This is done every couple of years by Singapore Airlines to manage rising demand and operating costs.
When will Singapore Airlines’ miles devaluation begin in 2025?
This round of miles devaluation will begin on November 1, 2025, with redemption rates rising from 5 to 20 percent depending on your flight class and travel route. This means that if you’ve got flight points to spend, it would be a good idea to lock in your holiday bookings before November rolls in.
What if I’ve already booked a flight?
Not to worry as all bookings redeemed and ticketed by October 31, 2025, will still follow the current award rates.
Are there any decreases in redemption rates at all?
Yes, it’s not all bad news. Redemption rates for certain Economy Saver flights in the Asia-Pacific region – including but not limited to Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand – have in fact decreased by around 5 percent. This means that you’ll need fewer KrisFlyer miles to redeem flights to certain destinations in this category.
Redeem new Scoot Award Flights with your KrisFlyer Miles
As of August 13, 2025, you can now also use your KrisFlyer Miles to redeem flights on Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary. A one-way flight from Singapore to Malaysia via Scoot starts from just 1,500 miles, while add-ons like meals can be purchased using cash.
About the new ‘Access’ flight redemptions
In addition to the usual Saver and Advantage flights, which require a fixed amount of KrisFlyer miles for redemption, a new Access category with varying rates based on demand will be launched on November 1. Even if Saver and Advantage flights are fully booked, the Access flights remain open for redemption as long as there are empty seats available.
