According to a report by the CNN, celebrity chef, television host and acclaimed writer Anthony Bourdain has passed away at the age of 61. He was found dead in his hotel room in a suspected suicide in Strasbourg, France, where he was shooting his television programme, Parts Unknown.

The chef was a huge fan of Singapore's hawker scene – visiting the likes of Maxwell Food Centre and 328 Katong Laksa during his visits to the city. He even planned to open a Singapore-style hawker food hall in New York before the project was canned last year.

Bourdain's death follows earlier reports of the passing of American designer Kate Spade, who was found dead in her NYC apartment from an alleged suicide on Tuesday. If you need emotional support or a listening ear, contact the Samaritans of Singapore at 1800 221 4444.
