Deck's iconic shipping container structure in Bras Basah to be demolished by March 2021

Housed in an iconic shipping container structure in the heart of Singapore's art and heritage district, Deck has become a familiar presence in the creative Bras Basah precinct. Since its inception in 2014, the contemporary institution for photography arts has brought together a group of passionate artists, designers, members of the public and like-minded people. Deck's dedication to nurturing photography enthusiasts in Singapore and Southeast Asia has shown throughout the years, spearheading events such as the Singapore International Photography Festival. 

However, with less-than-stellar news plaguing the arts industry in recent months, the independent art space isn't spared. Deck has announced in a post that the structure on Prinsep Street has reached the end of its lifecycle and will be demolished by March 2021. This leaves the institution with two options: to refit the existing structure or rebuild from ground-up. As Deck believes in claiming a permanent space for independent artists and photographers, to it's calling out for community support to crowdfund a new and permanent building plan with the Save Deck Building Fund. This helps to offset part of the cost for a permanent building with an expanded space that will house more showcases, incubate experimental ideas, nurture new talents and provide more opportunities for mid-career and ground-breaking artists.
